PRESS RELEASE: Time for ANC-led government to take full responsibility for its failures
STATEMENT ISSUED BY MR BANTU HOLOMISA, MP - UDM PRESIDENT
With regards to the hotly debated matter of whether Government can continue to blame apartheid for South Africa's problems, the United Democratic Movement (UDM) believes that we will always use apartheid as an important reminder of what not to do in building a nation.
However, the time for the ANC-led government to blame its failures on apartheid is over. Government has to take full responsibility for its failures and scandals, such as the dysfunctional education system, the crumbling infrastructure, Sarafina II, the Arms Deal, the Oilgate and Nkandlagate scandals, the Tatane and Marikana incidents as well as the Central African Republic (CAR) fiasco, among others.
Insofar as our education system is concerned, it is disappointing to see that Government has even failed to learn from countries like Zimbabwe who invested heavily in their education system after gaining independence.
I shudder to think what will happen to our country if Government fails to arrest these problems and continues to blame them on apartheid.
