PRESS RELEASE: Thembisa Dingaan appointed to Absa Bank board

Barclays Africa Group Limited (formerly Absa Group Limited) announces the appointment of Mrs Thembisa Dingaan to its subsidiary Absa Bank board as a non-executive board director with effect from 25 September 2013. Thembisa brings a wealth of experience and knowledge after more than 15 years with various organisations in the financial services industry.

Thembisa is currently a member of the board of directors of the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) where she serves as the chair of the Board Credit and Investment Committee and is a member of various Board committees.

A former member of the Trade and Industry Standing Advisory Committee on Company Law, as well as a board member of the South African Export Credit Insurance Corporation (ECIC), Thembisa holds directorships on the boards of Imperial Holdings Limited, Adapt IT Limited, and Mustek Limited and is chairperson of Ukhamba Holdings (Pty) Ltd, Imperial's staff-owned Black Economic Empowerment Vehicle.

Commenting on Thembisa's appointment, Wendy Lucas-Bull, Barclays Africa Group and Absa Bank Chairman, said: "We are delighted to have Thembisa on board. I am confident that she will add significant value to customers, clients and shareholders through her wealth of financial services experience."

Thembisa holds an LLB degree from the University of Natal and received her LLM from Harvard University, Cambridge, USA. In November 1998 she was admitted to the New York State Bar and received her H. Dip Tax from the University of Witwatersrand in 2000.
