PRESS RELEASE: Ideal Time for Tripartite Alliance to reconsider their positions
Considering recent political events, it is conceivable that the right time has arrived for each partner of the tripartite alliance to go its own way.
The recent implosive situations are only exacerbated by the fact that certain COSATU affiliates are not happy with the way that the other alliance partners are conducting themselves. To add insult to injury, NUMSA has also made serious allegations against ANC and SACP, that they are undermining and dividing COSATU.
The main purpose of creating the alliance was to fight the common enemy, viz The Apartheid Government, which has been achieved when we received freedom in 1994. The UDM calls on each partner to concentrate on its mandate, such as Unions focussing on labour issues and not be embroiled in political chess.
The continuity of this alliance also poses so many irreconcilable ironies, such as the government being an employer but also being in bed with the Unions. No matter which way you look at it, the Unions end up being patronised.
The UDM calls on leaders to admit that in fighting has never benefitted the people they represent, and in doing so, go their own ways to ensure that the mandates they have been given are upheld.
