PRESS RELEASE: Marikana's Imbalanced Scales of Justice
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) expresses its growing concern regarding the imbalance of funding in the Farlam Commission.
It seems the scales of justice are woefully unbalanced, as the group of about 300 miners who were injured and arrested seek funds, and the State has spent at least R6.7m to date on legal representation of the police. Without funding for the miners, the grounds will remain uneven, and there will be no objectivity nor credibility of the outcome of the Farlam Commission.
The UDM calls upon state organs such as the Legal Aid Board to assist in levelling the playing field, and to ensure effective remediation and a speedy justice.
